The inaugural

Let the reviewing again!
The half-ironman is in the books, I competed on Sunday July 25th in Bozeman and placed 10th on a beautiful course in front of some friends and family. It was a truly great experience, but I can't lie, I am glad it's over. So this week I have been very lazy, enjoying some down time, good food, and of course good beer.
So as you may have read, the project officially begins Friday at 4 PM with my brother and I heading to Helena to visit Blackfoot River and Sleeping Giant. We're hopeful that our Mom will stay in Helena and join us, and maybe even cook some breakfast Saturday morning. Saturday we will head to Missoula (via Butte). The agenda includes a visit to Quarry Brewing, and then Bayern and Kettlehouse. Finally on Sunday we will hit up Big Sky Brewing to wrap up the weekend.
The itinerary is set, the scoring system is set, and we are set. Get ready to indulge in the greatest review of tap rooms across our great state!

Half Ironman Weekend

This evening I just had one of those terrible moments that I mentioned in my first post. This Sunday I will be competing in a half-ironman length triathlon in Bozeman. To get a head start on the weekend I decided to drive to Helena and stay at my Mom's house. Helena, home to Blackfoot River and Sleeping Giant...yea I really wanted to go grab a couple of beers at each tap room, but will power won out, so instead I decided to write a quick post and read a little of the newest Bourdain book.
I was thinking a lot about some of my favorite Colorado tap rooms on the drive to Helena (I moved back to Montana from Denver in February). Great Divide, Avery, O'Dell's...I could go on forever. I will dedicate more than one post to Colorado brewing.
Tap the Big Sky!

Welcome

This is it, post number 1, uno, ichi, however you say it, this is the beginning. I have that to get the most out of life, you must seek out what makes you happy, what you are passionate about, what really drives you to wake up in the morning, and dedicate as much to your life as possible. For me, outside of my family this consists of two basic things that are sometimes contradictory of each other: craft brewing and fitness. Let me explain a little.

I love every single thing about craft brewing. I love the beers and the skill and knowledge required to make a great beer, I love the culture of craft brewing and the people involved in this great art, I love tap rooms(more on this below), really I love it all.

Fitness, yes personal fitness is my other passion in life. My day is not complete until I have a solid workout. I am not picky - I have completed 5 triathlons, I have started 32 games as a NCAA Division 1 football player, I love to hike, I love to ski, I love to walk, you get the point, I love to move.
So how do these work together? Well there is nothing quite like finishing a long hike, or bike ride on a Saturday followed by a long evening in a tap room. Or how about taking a tap room tour by bike...pretty sweet if you ask me. Or maybe training hard all week so you will not feel guilty drinking 6 to 8 IPA's or Tripel's or Stout's or whatever...it's all deadly.

Anyways to the purpose of this blog. I am going to travel to every brewery in the State of Montana review the tap room associated with each brewery. I have created a not so sophisticated ranking system (similar to Johnny Drama's agency evaluation for you entourage fans) and tell the world about my experience there. The criteria includes broad categories such as the obvious: the beer, but also amenities (bike rack, free popcorn, etc.), friendliness and knowledge of the staff, I will post the scoring of each tap room after the visit.

So this blog is truly dedicated to the tap rooms. The beer is very important, but the tap rooms are what I am reviewing. I am hoping to provide a resource for fellow craft beer enthusiasts interested in MT's tap rooms, by letting them know about my experience. Maybe you only have time to visit one tap room, or you're interested in some behind the scenes info, I don't know, I just love tap rooms and want to visit them and tell stories about them.

Although I have visited many of the tap rooms in Montana, there will be no pre-conceived notions. The journey begins on July 30 in Helena, and will continue on to Missoula July 31. This will be a special journey for me, as my amazing brother and best friend will be joining me for this inaugural adventure before he moves to Peru for a while.

In the mean time I will add some photos, try and think of a catchy tag line, and consider proof reading.
